Phenomenal few days

“My girlfriend and I stayed at El Pez for 3 nights during summer, and fell in love with Tulum and this small luxury hotel. The staff are so friendly and helpful – no request was too much – and their attention to detail was outstanding. All dinner and bar recommendations were perfect, and very cool for us (mid-30s professionals living in London/Sydney). The hotel itself features a rustic but vast, polished and beautifully decorated lobby, the beach bungalows give you that immediate relaxed holiday vibe, and there are ocean views throughout the whole property. I don’t leave many reviews and when I do it’s because the hotel has had such a big impact. We will stay here again for sure!”

Family vacation

“El Pez completely exceed my expectations. It is a small hotel that is luxurious and yet casual and laid back with all the amenities you expect from a high-end hotel. Great restaurant and bar right on the beach. From the moment we arrived everyone at the hotel made sure that our stay was perfect.
The team 100% surprised and delighted me with the attention to detail in everything from restaurant suggestions to sightseeing recommendations to making sure we had everything we needed during the day. I was genuinely sad to leave and will most definitely stay there again the next time we return to Tulum.”

JULY 2019

Amazing and beautiful hotel! So happy this is where we chose to stay in Tulum!

“After searching through many hotels in Tulum we are so so happy that we ended up at El Pez. We stayed in the beachfront master suite which is absolutely gorgeous, you can hear the waves crashing from the bed and have your own beautiful deck with chairs and a hammock. All of the staff are very friendly, extremely helpful and accommodating. We were greeted with delicious free cocktails upon check in and enjoyed the complimentary tea/chocolates each night and coffee delivered to our porch every morning. The breakfast that is included is delicious with lots of options to choose from, and even the lunch we had at the restaurant was awesome too! We will definitely be back to El Pez and highly recommend it!”

MARCH 2019

Best Service We Have Found!

“For the past year and a half we have been planning our wedding in Tulum. El Pez has by far been the easiest to deal with. Their communication has been timely and their service has been spectacular. We’re not only renting out the entire place for family to stay at for our wedding but also hosting a mezcal tasting there. The new manager is extremely nice and easy to deal with. We couldn’t be happier that we chose El Pez.”

At home, El Pez

“I was here for 7 nights and because of a knee injury was less apt to travel around. I stayed put and enjoyed the relaxing and beautiful environment of El Pez. I enjoyed being so close to the water, the low key ambience, the incredible food: for me, especially breakfasts, desserts, tea on the porch looking out at the sea (tea delivered early evening, with chocolate); and most of all, the people who work at El Pez: They are kind, interesting, helpful, and fun.”

Incredible Service and a Memorable Experience

“Nine years ago, after my first visit to Tulum, I wrote a review of BeTulum in which I noted that the modest issues with the hotel were far overshadowed by the incredible and highly personal service that staff provided to me. In 2019, with BeTulum now well beyond my hotel budget, I had a similar experience at El Pez. Actually, I believe that the service was even better at El Pez – every staff member I met was kind, courteous, and helpful. I’m beginning to think that Tulum is the friendliest place in the world!

My wife and I stayed in a Caribbean view room for 10 days. For a beachfront hotel ranked at the very top of the Tripadvisor listings, we received an excellent rate, which included a full breakfast. El Pez also enabled us to pay our deposit (half of the total) using Paypal, which provided me with an opportunity to take advantage of Paypal’s 6-month, interest-free financing – a nice plus.

Most of the rooms at El Pez face the ocean, and the views from the restaurant are dreamy. A cool breeze kept us comfortable as we watched the pelicans perched on the large rock in the bay.

Our room was comfortable and extremely well-maintained. Management clearly understands the vital importance of constant upkeep, and El Pez maintains a large staff to keep things in top shape. The best feature of the room was the large deck overlooking the water. While it didn’t feature a five-star kind of luxury, the bed was extremely comfortable and twice-daily housekeeping service kept us comfy.

The front desk staff – Gil, Denisse and Cintia – provided fantastic and honest recommendations for restaurants, cenotes, beach clubs, and other local areas of interest.

Restaurant staff – especially Edzon, Luis, Fernando, Jesus, Edwin, Victor and Cayetano – were efficient, gracious, funny, and professional – all of the ingredients of a relaxing and enjoyable hotel experience. There were several days when my wife and I slept late and technically “missed” the breakfast window, but they never made a fuss and served us breakfast anyway. I’ve always found that the best hotels both hire people with the right attitude AND train them extensively. It’s clear that El Pez management has done both right.

Another factor in El Pez’ favor is its location, towards the northern end of the Boca Paila. With the extensive development taking place along this beach road, it can be very time-consuming to travel just a few kilometers. We felt fortunate to not have to travel too far south along that narrow road, which is clogged with taxis, construction vehicles, water delivery trucks, pedestrians and tourists on bicycles.

Beach service was outstanding. There are a number of small palapas and comfortable loungers. The beach itself is rocky, and our enjoyment was marred by the sargassum (seaweed) problem that is plaguing beaches through the Caribbean. El Pez had a team of workers clearing the reddish seaweed off of the beach all day, every day. El Pez is managing the problem as well as it can be managed, but this could significantly impact the tourism industry in areas such as Tulum.

Still, Tulum has so much to offer and is far more interesting and attractive than other cities along the coast. While heavy development is fundamentally changing Tulum, some of the changes are positive, including a vibrant dining scene for all budget levels.
El Pez gets my highest rating – I loved it. “

“We had a wonderful time in Tulum. We enjoyed our stay at El Pez very much. It was so relaxing and quiet. I have stayed in Playa del Carmen and Cancun, which was fun for the experience, but busier and louder than Tulum. If you are looking for a relaxing environment El Pez is the place. The staff is super friendly and helpful in suggesting things to do. We used Bob’s transfer which the hotel recommended and they were perfect. The breakfast included is delicious.
The cove is the perfect place to stare at all the wildlife while reading a book. It is difficult to swim in the cove because of the seaweed, but it is a problem everywhere. We just walked down the beach and swam with no problem. We also went to Santa Fe beach one day which was perfect. Snorkeling is great too on at Santa Fe beach.
We loved our time at El Pez and visiting the other sister hotels for drinks and meals.
We would return for sure.”

Small, quiet with lovely service

“We’ve had a lovely week at El Pez.
Our upstairs room had a great deck with a hammock and sofa where we spent hours watching the Pelicans.
All the staff are so kind and helpful.
Great included breakfast and the morning coffee and evening tea are a great touch. Ask Jorge to make you a cocktail.
We did encounter the famous seaweed which made swimming in the bay impossible, so we just got a taxi to some of the beach clubs.
We used Julian from Yakata transfers who I’d highly recommend.
Don’t go to Tulum without visiting the Sian Ka’an biosphere, it was a magical experience.
Tulum is quite busy but El Pez is a quiet oasis.
If we return to Tulum we’d stay here again.”

Excellent stay. I’d definitely go back.

“We stayed at El Pez in February. The staff was extremely polite and helpful. The room was clean and everything worked well. The food was also great. Plus, the views from the back dining porch are amazing. The only downside (not their fault) is the seaweed on the beach. El Pez’s beach is not the only one affected. It went down as far as we could see. They had people out everyday working to clear it, but apparently this is the time of year where all this seaweed washes up. Not a reason to avoid El Pez, just something to be aware of if you’re hoping to spend time swimming on their beach. When we were there, it was in almost waist-high piles. Again, it’s a beautiful place that we’d certainly go back to. Thank you for an excellent stay, El Pez.”

WE ❤️Tulum & El Pez

“After spending 3 days in Playa de Carmen we travelled to Tulum for 5 days of relaxation, tranquility and picturesque sunrises & sunsets right from our room. The super friendly staff made us feel like part of their family and all the recommendations for meals and activities were awesome and some places only locals may know.”

El Pez Boutique Hotel is a very special hotel on the Beach in Tulum

“We spent a couple of days in Tulum this week and found this great beachside hotel with air conditioned rooms overlooking the beach situated in a small cove. The rooms and beds were very comfortable and a wonderful breakfast each morning was included.”

What a special place!

“The staff at El Pez we’re absolutely amazing and accommodating in every way possible. They made our stay in Tulum so special and genuinely made us feel like family. We even booked another night because we did not want to leave. The whole staff and management team are absolute professionals. I would recommend El Pez to absolutely anyone. Thank you all so much!”

Amazing Valentine’s Weekend at El Pez

“My girlfriend and I had a great experience at El Pez Tulum. The staff was amazing and couldn’t have been more welcoming and accommodating. I loved the small feel of the resort and our room was incredible (we booked a regular room) with an oceanfront view. Not sure how many guests they can fit but we went on a busy weekend and it felt like we had the place to ourselves. We spent a good bit of time in town and exploring the surrounding areas but coming back being able to come home to our personal paradise was a great feeling. I would 100% recommend this resort to anyone looking at vacationing in the Yucatan. The facilities are beautiful and the staff is absolutely first class.”

Amazing experience. Very impressed!

“My wife and I have traveled the world over and been to Mexico many times. First time in Tulum. We picked it because it was small, looked cool and was part of SLH group. Amazing property, great location, and incredible service. Shout out to the owner who met us personally, the manager who was constantly on top of things, and mostly Denisse the concierge and liaison to the guests. She is the real deal. We had a great time and will return. Try room 10, the Manta Ray.”

Sweet & Quiet, Right on the Beach

“The El Pez is simply wonderful. I love boutique hotels and did a lot of research and read (infinity) reviews before choosing a Tulum hotel. We wanted something quiet, not a party vibe, but also special, upscale and right on the water. This ticked all the boxes and then some! The staff is wonderful (every single person), the rooms are large, the shower water is hot, the complimentary breakfast is incredible and coffee in the morning and tea at night (delivered always at the perfect time) is such a sweet touch. The views from everywhere on the property and especially the guest rooms are incredible – with pelicans flying around all the time. Don’t worry about the water, we ate EVERYTHING (literally, every taco we could get our hands on) and didn’t get sick. Just don’t drink it. Don’t worry about not flushing paper. You’ll be totally fine and everyone keeps things very clean. Don’t worry about anything. El Pez is fantastic. Can’t wait to be back! (Thank you to everyone at El Pez!)”

El Pez Getaway

“We had such an amazing time at this property. My Boyfriend and I needed to get away somewhere to disconnect and relax. That is exactly what happened when we arrived at El Pez. As soon as we arrived, Gil provided us with phenomenal service that lasted our entire stay. He made sure we knew everything we needed to know and was always so happy to see us.

The restaurant staff was amazing as well. I have several food allergies and they were very accommodating. Caetayno, Victor, Jesus, Fernando, and Edwin all took such great care of us.

The room was gorgeous and Tortuga kept everything so neat and tidy.

We will be back to Tulum to do more exploring. You need to come for more than 5 days to make sure you can do everything. We ate like Kings while we were here, so be prepared to eat a lot of amazing food.

Thank you all so much for everything

– Taylor and James”

Quaint and comfortable

“A perfect retreat from the crowds of Cancun. This hotel is on the beach and short walk to the small shops and restaurants. Also the hotel host a complimentary breakfast and a happy each afternoon so you could take your book, your beverage and watch the pelicans feed in the cove and let the warm ocean breeze wash over you. Find the real flavor of Mexico.”

Trip of a lifetime

“Wow! We cannot say enough great things about El Pez and their amazing team! From the moment we arrived they treated us like family! The hotel and food are amazing and the location is close to everything.

When we arrived we were upgraded to a beautiful room that walked right out onto the beach! My husband and I were celebrating our engagement/shotgun wedding, along with his birthday. The day of his actual birthday everyone at the hotel seemed to remember, saying happy birthday everywhere we went and they even decorated our hotel room with balloons. It couldn’t have been more perfect.

The second half of our trip we were actually supposed to stay at another hotel, but we just decided to stay at El Pez, all because of the amazing staff who quickly became family and the great amenities.

We cannot wait for our return trip! El Pez is officially our home away from home.

Thanks El Pez team! We miss you guys so much already!”

Girls trip

“The service at this hotel is beyond fantastic. Abdel at the front desk was so helpful from beginning to end (he even printed out my boarding pass for me after my phone died!!)
The little touches at this resort makes it special. Coffee in the morning and the tea and night were lovely. The breakfast was plentiful and delicious. Jorge at the bar was exceptional, making happy hour really fun. Everything at this resort was perfect..the only downfall was the beach. I’m used to the crystal blue of Cuba and the DR…although the hard working staff tried their best to clean up the seaweed, it was next to impossible to make a dent in the piles and piles that would wash up to shore. The water is not for swimming – or even wading, which is a priority for me. The pool is lovely, but backs on to the main road. So if you aren’t a big fan of the ocean for swimming,or don’t need a pool, this would not bother you. But for that reason alone I can’t give El Pez 5 stars.”

50th bday celebration with girlfriends

“I want to give this hotel more than 5 stars! Thoroughly researched the hotels before booking it and it exceeded expectations for sure! The concierge and all the employees genuinely want to help you and go out of their way to make your visit great. The sounds of the water right outside your bedroom is incredible! Free breakfast is delicious! Loved the great sleeping set up and the coffee and tea at night and morning. There was nothing I would add. We loved the fish tacos and guacamole- loved the afternoon beach popsicles- and really enjoyed the location of this hotel. Removed a bit from all the noise. Thank you to Luis, Denise, etc!!! So many of you.”

Best breakfast

“While on vacation in Tulum , we decided to leave the resort to go get breakfast at El pez, as a friend suggested!
It was amazing! And the view fantastic! Friendly staff and delicious meal. Probably the best pancakes we’d had! And the ricotta with the papaya was out of this world!
Def a must go to when in Tulum!”

“I have never written a review before but had to for this hotel. We, my boyfriend and I, traveled here together and had the most fabulous time. this hotel is the gem of Tulum with incredible staff including Gil, Denise and Abdar! The free breakfast is something to dream about, the sunsets, the private deck, the coffee to your room in the morning and tea and chocolates delivered each night were just bits of how sweet the staff made every moment. We plan on returning hoping to see the same smiling staff and reliving our first trip together each time. Thank you for it all! We’re counting down until we return.
Alex & Aaron”

Wonderful time at El Pez!

“My girlfriend and I had a fantastic stay at El Pez over MLK Jr. weekend for her birthday. The view from our Caribbean Sea View room was incredible. The delivered coffee every morning to our room where we would watch the sunrise then in the evening we would stargaze while listening to the waves crash. It could not be more peaceful and relaxing vacation.

Additionally, Abdel and Fernando sang Happy Birthday to my GF the morning of her birthday at breakfast, they strung balloons throughout the room and provided us with an ice bucket & 2 glasses for our champagne. It was great!

We were greeted with smiles and kindness at every turn. It was clear they wanted us not to have to lift a finger. So spoiled!
The beach in front of El Pez is pretty rocky so it is difficult to swim but around the south corner of the cove is a gorgeous beach where we would take some beers and swim all afternoon.

The daily breakfast included was super tasty and filling, such a nice perk! The chairs on the beach were never crowded, had plenty of shade and we always had a pillow and beach towel.

I’d highly recommend this hotel if you’re looking for a relaxing, low key stay. But it is also just a short taxi ride from all the action a mile south of the hotel which was nice to be close but not in it constantly.

We will definitely be coming back to Tulum and El Pez – Thank you Denise, Gil, Will, Abdel and the rest of the team for an unforgettable time! You guys are great!”
