Frequently Asked Questions:

Reservation policies

Electricity quest: There is no grid power on the beach in Tulum. El Pez has invested in its own 24 hour power generation system using low emission generators. Each room has fans, but no air-conditioning. Also, hair dryers consume too much power and cannot be used. Our rooms have outlets which can be used for charging cameras, cell phones and computers.

Internet access: El Pez has wireless internet access available from the common areas and all our rooms.

Private Rental: For information regarding options to rent our hotel as a private villa, or for private events and weddings please email our group reservation coordinator at weddings@tulumhotelpez.com

Insects and bugs: El Pez is on the beach and surrounded by thousands of acres of pristine jungle and lagoon wetlands. As a result there are all the usual bugs and insects you would expect. Usually the wind blowing off the sea keeps the mosquitoes away, but at dusk they can be a nuisance. We recommend that guests bring insect repellent they like. All the rooms have fans to make it comfortable to sleep.

Climate: In the summer months it can get hot. Perfect for sitting in the shade of a palm tree and sipping a fresh lemonade. With the sea breezes and lots of swimming most guests are fine. It is not as hot as Florida (say Miami), but if you do not like the heat then better to wait until the cooler months.

Water safety: We only supply bottled water to drink or brush your teeth with. You cannot drink the water that comes from the wells in Tulum.

Special diets: We have refrigerators and freezers in the kitchen that can be used for keeping special foods or liquids fresh. Please let us know well in advance of any special needs so that we can try to accommodate you.

The rooms: Our rooms reflect the essence of why people love to visit Tulum. However, if you are looking for typical concrete block hotel construction with air-conditioning and in-room television, then you may not enjoy Tulum and El Pez. Playa del Carmen and Cancun have resorts with these types of amenities.

Kite-boarding: Tulum is a good place to learn kite-boarding. We can arrange lessons for you with a reputable school down the beach.

Pets: No pets are permitted at the hotel.

Children at El Pez: We welcome families at El Pez. However all of our rooms have King beds in them, more suitable for couples.

Airport Transfers: We collaborate with a reliable company that offers private pick-ups from the airport and will deliver you directly to Mezzanine. You can add this to your reservation in extra services. The cost is $90 USD for 1-2 passengers one way.

Travel Insurance: Please take out Travel Insurance to cover you against unforeseen events, including cancellation due to hurricanes.

Room Rates: Our room rates are not inclusive of tax which is 14%.

Hotel Balance Due: Your hotel balance will be due upon arrival.

Check in time is 3pm: We will do our best to have your room ready as early as possible. We can store your luggage until your room is ready for check-in if necessary. Please let us know when you think you will be arriving at the hotel so we can anticipate your check-in time. The reception is located just up the steps at the front entrance and is open from 8 am until 8 pm. If you will be arriving later than 8pm we will leave the key with the night watchman. Directions: The highway from Cancun airport to Tulum is the 307. It is a wide, 2 lane highway all the way south to Tulum. As you leave the airport you will veer right onto the 307 highway which will then take you all the way to Tulum through Playa del Carmen. The trip takes between one & half to two hours driving. When you enter the town of Tulum you will come to a four-way set of traffic lights with a large supermarket called San Francisco on your right. At these lights turn left and head east towards the beach road (the sign says To Boca Paila). You will reach a T-intersection with a little police casita on your left. Turn right and head south for approximately 1.5 km. You will pass through the little beach village and the restaurant "Zamas" before the road opens out to a broad view of the sea. The next big building you see on your left is El Pez at Turtle Cove. El Pez has a sign on the left side of the road with magnificent entrance doors. There is a little Police checkpoint just before you arrive. Welcome!
